RECIPE: Baked Tempeh Marinade

When eating a vegan diet, or simply trying to cut back on meat as the main source of protein, many people turn to tofu or tempeh. Tempeh is a soy product originally from Indonesia, made by a natural culturing and controlled fermentation process that binds soybeans into a cake form – and it packs a protein punch.

Below is a recipe we found for a very easy, healthy marinade that can be used for tempeh, and then the tempeh can be baked in the oven.

Baked Tempeh Marinade

Ingredients:
(NOTE: If making a full package of tempeh, double the ingredients below.)

2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp. Bragg Liquid Aminos
1 ½ tsp toasted sesame oil
1 ½ tsp. 100 percent pure maple syrup
½ clove garlic, firmly chopped
½ block of tempeh, cut into ½-inch strips

Directions:
Mix first five ingredients well, and carefully arrange tempeh strips in a single layer in a glass baking dish and pour marinade over tempeh. Marinate for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake for 20 minutes. Then turn tempeh pieces over and bake for 15 minutes more.
