When you think of Feng Shui, the bathroom might not be the first place that comes to mind – but bathrooms have a special significance in Feng Shui because it’s where we clean ourselves inside and out, according to Ann Bingley Gallops, a Feng Shui consultant in an article written for Networx.
Here are some of the tips she shared for creating a Feng Shui bathroom:
1. Keep the bathroom spotlessly clean and clutter-free. “Here is one place in your home where you definitely don’t want your Chi energy to get stuck,” Gallops said. This includes the closet and medicine cabinet. She recommends clearing everything out and only keeping things you use and love. Also, be sure to clean the bathroom thoroughly once a week, and always use clean towels and washcloths.
2. Be sure to balance the five elements. Bathrooms are associated with Feng Shui’s ‘water’ element, symbolizing spirituality, truth and reflection. “Water’s movement is downward and in fact your bathroom contains the most powerful drains in your home in the bathtub, sink and toilet,” she said. “To counteract this downward flow, balance water with wood, the element of upward movement and growth.” This can be accomplished with a healthy live or silk plant; items in the color green; or wood accessories, such as a wood toilet seat. Also, artwork with trees and tall buildings help as well.
3. Activate the right energy. Depending on which area of the house the bathroom is located, you can activate the energy there. Using a Bagua Map can help you figure the location out. If your bathroom is located in the Relationship area of the house, you can place candlesticks on the back of the toilet, Gallops noted, explaining one of her clients did this and reported “the glow of a wonderful relationship shortly thereafter.” If it’s in the Wealth area, add luxurious artwork to “evoke a feeling of abundance and remind you of the blessings in your life,” she said.
